Special Challenge: Halloween

terrymcginnis"Nope, no way, not happening," Max said into the telephone.
"C'mon, Max!" Terry whined. He could hear rustling. Max was probably getting dressed. "The crime rate goes way up on Halloween! I can't take Matt trick-or-treating and be Batman! And then there's Blade's party!"
"Which I am going to. You know I'm always happy to help out, but I actually have a date tonight and unlike you I don't plan to blow it. Think I should go as Supergirl or go classic as a witch?"
"Witch." He didn't think wearing a Supergirl costume would make Max decide that she needed to take a more proactive role in crimefighting, but he wasn't going to risk it.
Max chuckled. "Supergirl it is."
"Max, Wayne's gonna kill me if I don't make it to patrol!"
"So call him and say you'll be an hour late! It's not like Matt's gonna stay out all that late. Oh, my date's here. Bye, Ter! Good luck!"
"Yeah, yeah, have fun." Terry hung up the phone and sighed, leaning back on his bed. Great, an evening with the brat. At least he could probably steal some candy off him. He grumbled and stood up.
"Hey, Matt, are you gonna take all night getting into your costume?" he called. "Let's get this over with." He walked out into the living room. "Where is that kid."
"Yaaargh!" He felt something hit his back and automatically twisted to fight it off before realizing, oh, Matt. "I got you, evil doer! You're gonna go to jail!"
"Funny, Matt." Terry reached behind him and pulled a pintsized Batman off his back. "Batman? Really?"
"Duh!" Matt pushed the mask up and grinned. "He's only the schwayest of the schway! Everyone's gonna be dressing like him!"
Terry grinned a little, looking up and down. Homemade wings sewed between his arms and legs, the bright red symbol on his little brother's chest. "Yeah, pretty schway, okay. I'm not dressing as him, though."
"That's okay, you can be Robin." Matt laughed and scrambled into the kitchen.
"Brat!" Terry chased after him, but then the doorbell rang. "As soon as I deal with these trick-or-treaters, you're dead!" he shouted.
Matt shouted something back about the bad guy never winning, but Terry couldn't make it out. He grabbed the bowl of candy and opened the door. "...woah."
It wasn't a trick-or-treater at the door, but it was someone in a costume. Dana had a skintight black costume with the bat-symbol in red on her chest. She hadn't bothered with any kind of cape or mask, though she did have a headband with the ears on it. Terry swallowed a little. She didn't know his secret. She couldn't.
"Hey, Terry," she said, blushing a little. "Like my costume?"
"Yeah I do." Terry kissed her and let her in. "But I can't go to the party, you know. I gotta--"
"Take Matt trick-or-treating. I know." Dana smiled. "Thought I'd come. I'd rather be with you anyway."
...maybe the night wouldn't be a total waste after all. Terry grinned at her. "I'd like that."
She smiled and kissed him again. Terry pulled her close, but they were interrupted by retching sounds.
"Ewwwww," Matt said. "Terry, you're supposed to be taking me trick-or-treating. Not making out with Daaaaana."
"I can do both." Terry grinned and put an arm over Dana. "Hey, you were right about everyone dressing as Batman. But I like her costume better."
Dana elbowed him. "That's Batgirl."
"How about Batwoman?" Terry kissed her again, and Matt ran over to kick his leg.
"Let's go let's go let's go! Terry, you gonna wear a costume or what?"
"Well, I thought about being Batman, but I don't want to be unoriginal." Terry shook his head. "I'll just go as me."
"Works for me." Dana smiled. Terry grinned back and they walked out the door.
After all, he dressed in costumes every night. He didn't feel any particular need to wear one tonight.
